[0x00] Overview

I use my lab to experiement or play around with stuff that I can’t do elsewhere, for example enterprise networking and servers and all that kind of stuff. I am a teenager so I don’t haver a real production environment that I can play around with. I also host services locally that I don’t want to exist in the cloud. This article will work as a directory for all articles related to my lab.

[0x01] The lab network

As explained in the the series overview, I use the lab to experiement with enterprise gear so my home network is - let’s say - advanced. The hardware My router is a HP desktop I got for free running pfSense. I installed a second NIC in it. Any PC should work. My main switch is a 1st gen Unifi US-24 featuring 24 1Gb RJ45 ports and 2 1Gb SFP ports.

[0x02] The hypervisor [WIP]

This article is still a Work-In-Progress. I have a Lenovo S30 that is currently my main hypervisor. I bought it used from workstation4u.de. I’m planning to get another one for redundancy, but for now here are the specs: Component Description Notes CPU Intel Xeon E5-2660 8c16t @ 2.20GHz RAM 4x Samsung M393B2G70BH0 total 64GB DDR3 RDIMM GPU Some cheap one that I had lying around Only needed for installing OS SSD SanDisk SSD PLUS 1000GB - HDD Hitachi HDS721010CLA630 basic 1TB HDD, Came free with the machine I use Proxmox as my hypervisor OS.
